It was a Friday and I was getting ready to run across the street to grab Imos for lunch. I was feeling pretty crummy and thought I deserved it. (I will have you know that I believed Trey would never come, even though he wasn't due for another 4 days!) On my was down the hall, my water broke! I calmly called Gordon who didn't believe me at first. I finished me paperwork, changed out of my work clothes, and patiently, but excitedly, waited for Gordon to pick me up.
We ran home to let the dog out and pack some toiletry items. We then tried to pick up lunch at McCallister's, but the line was super long! Not wanting to draw attention to myself, I wouldn't let Gordon pull the "my wife's in labor" card and we went to subway instead. --On a side note, I was trying to call my mom but she wasn't picking up! I called my dad, who saw my mom's car pulling into the driveway and handed her the phone. For the first time in a month, she didn't ask if the baby was coming, but instead asked if she could call me back!!! I said no, which shocked her a bit, but then she understood when I asked if she would like a grandson for her birthday!!!-- We arrived at the hospital about an hour and a half after my water broke. The contractions started getting stronger during the registration process, but were just a glimpse of what was to come!
The delivery was relatively uncomplicated, but let me say that the world's best invention may be the epidural! There was a small party in the room with many family members after I received the magical medicine. Prior to, however, nobody was having fun! After I was more comfortable, we all watched finding Nemo and Elf (probably my favorite movie!). Everyone was eating supper and chatting, and I nearly took a nap! Everyone was kicked out of the room around 9:30, because it was baby time!
The entire family stayed in the waiting room until around midnight or 1am when they were allowed to meet Trey for the first time. I was exhausted, but so happy and excited that everyone was able to meet him.
What an amazing night! And now I'm a mom!!!
