Trey is 4 months!!!

I can't believe our little man is 4 months old already!!!  Time is flying by, and he is growing up so fast!  We had our 16 week MD appointment last week. We found out that...

Trey is 13lbs 12oz (25%)
He is 26 1/4 in long (98%!!!!)
He has a relatively small head
We are going to begin cereal this week
Trey has a tooth coming in (so exciting but also no-fun for him)

The pediatrician has also recommended that I wean Trey from his nighttime feedings.  This is going to be difficult- mostly on Mom and Dad.  I tried last night for the first time.  He went 9 hours between feedings. He woke up twice- the first time he cried only 3 minutes and went back to sleep.  The second time I tried rocking him after about 5 min of crying.  He still wouldn't calm, so I changed his diaper and put him back down.  It took about 10 minutes but he fell back asleep!  When he woke at 6am, I nursed him and he went back to sleep for another hour.  Thankfully, we have been trying to sleep-train for the past month, so we are getting used to letting Trey "cry it out" at times.  Hopefully, Trey will get used to this new routine in a few nights.

Trey is apparently advanced in motor development...per the doctor.  All I know is he would rather stand than sit most of the time; he rarely sits still; and he can roll from stomach to back (when he wants to, despite our attempts to make him!).  He is also able to sit up with support, and for a few seconds without support if he is positioned with his arms leaning on his legs.  He gets bored after a couple seconds, though, and will extend his whole body and stand up- with a little support from us.

He has started to find his feet but can't quite get those awesome little things to his mouth- although he is trying.

Dad is getting to spend more one-on-one time with Trey as I am working more weekends.  He is doing a great job!  He somehow even found time to hang Christmas lights on the house this past weekend!  Knowing how little I get done during the day, I don't know how he did it!  He is doing a great job at being a Dad and a husband.

Thanks for reading, and please keep us and Trey in your prayers as we venture through teething, continued sleep-training, and introducing cereal.

May God bless your and your family this holiday season!

Trey's 3 Months Old!

Holy cow! I can't believe my little man is 3 months old!  Time really is flying by!

Some milestones...
*He usually wakes up one to two times a night, and then between 6am and 7am for the day.
*Trey is really smiley in the morning!  Here is evidence:

*He looks at EVERYTHING!  It can be a distraction- when he is trying to nap! *He watches the television and IPad screen a lot.
*He brings blankets and burp cloths to his mouth.  He tries to eat his hands frequently. He can grab plastic toys sometimes but doesn't hold onto them very long.
*He enjoys his play mat and the swing- for about 10 to 15 minutes max, then he is bored and ready for something else.
*He "talks" all the time.
*He NEVER stops moving- even when he's sleeping!  There would be no sleep for him if we didn't swaddle him.  Maybe that's why he can only stay awake for 1 to 1.5 hours before needing a nap!
*He scores a A+ for head control!  (In my opinion)
*He can blow bubbles with his spit and is starting to stick out his tongue.
*He weighs 13lbs 3oz!

His favorite things are: bouncing on the exercise ball, walks in the Baby Bjorn, the play mat, his "movie" on the IPad, putting things in his mouth, and people talking to him.

We have recently started to sleep train him.  It is going better than I thought so far, but at times it is hard not to pick him up and rock him to sleep!

Gordon Richard Brownfield III aka "Trey"

We welcomed Trey into the world on August 2, 2013, at 11:02pm.  He weighed in at 6lbs 13oz and 20 in long.

It was a Friday and I was getting ready to run across the street to grab Imos for lunch.  I was feeling pretty crummy and thought I deserved it.  (I will have you know that I believed Trey would never come, even though he wasn't due for another 4 days!) On my was down the hall, my water broke!  I calmly called Gordon who didn't believe me at first.  I finished me paperwork, changed out of my work clothes, and patiently, but excitedly, waited for Gordon to pick me up.

We ran home to let the dog out and pack some toiletry items.  We then tried to pick up lunch at McCallister's, but the line was super long!  Not wanting to draw attention to myself, I wouldn't let Gordon pull the "my wife's in labor" card and we went to subway instead.  --On a side note, I was trying to call my mom but she wasn't picking up!  I called my dad, who saw my mom's car pulling into the driveway and handed her the phone.  For the first time in a month, she didn't ask if the baby was coming, but instead asked if she could call me back!!!  I said no, which shocked her a bit, but then she understood when I asked if she would like a grandson for her birthday!!!-- We arrived at the hospital about an hour and a half after my water broke.  The contractions started getting stronger during the registration process, but were just a glimpse of what was to come!

The delivery was relatively uncomplicated, but let me say that the world's best invention may be the epidural!  There was a small party in the room with many family members after I received the magical medicine.  Prior to, however, nobody was having fun!  After I was more comfortable, we all watched finding Nemo and Elf (probably my favorite movie!).  Everyone was eating supper and chatting, and I nearly took a nap!  Everyone was kicked out of the room around 9:30, because it was baby time!

The entire family stayed in the waiting room until around midnight or 1am when they were allowed to meet Trey for the first time.  I was exhausted, but so happy and excited that everyone was able to meet him.

What an amazing night!  And now I'm a mom!!!

Hello!

Hi!  I am VERY new to this whole blogging thing!  I have a few friends that "blog" and am really excited to start writing down the precious moments in my life.  I am not good at journaling, so I hope to be able to look back on this in years to come to remember how incredible my life was at one point.  Why is my life incredible?  Well, the answer is simple.  I am married to the most amazing man and have a 3 month old baby boy, and both make life amazing every day.

Background on my family and myself:
I was born and raised in Belleville, IL.  I graduated from Maryville University in 2007 with my physical therapy degree.  I worked mainly in inpatient rehab, focusing on stroke and brain injury rehab until the birth of my son.  Since then, I have decided to cut back on my work load and currently work anywhere from 1 to 3 days a week.  I am loving being able to stay at home with my little boy and watch him grow.

My Husband:
Gordon Richard Brownfield Jr. grew up in Arnold, MO.  He was a student at several colleges until he finally settled in at Marvyville (after I had graduated).  He graduated with a degree in actuarial sciences.  If you would like more information on this, please ask him!  I am terrible at explaining this to anyone!  He currently works with IT consulting on website stuff.  Again, please direct all questions to him if you wonder what, specifically, he does!

How we Met:
I met Gordon around 2005 or 20066-ish.  We both worked together at Dick's Sporting Goods.  As he will tel you, sparks did not fly initially, at least not on my end.  :)  After awhile, he somehow agreed to start running with me.  He claimed to be a runner, but in hindsight, this was just a ploy to spend more time with me!  After a few runs, we got to know each other on a more personal level, and began dating soon after. We married on December 18, 2010 and had our son on August 2, 2013 (p.s. he arrived on my mom's birthday). If you would have told me back in 2006 that I would be married to Gordon, I would have probably laughed and thought you were losing your mind!  Just another example of how God works in mysterious ways; we would never understand the plan if we knew it ahead of time.

About us:
We try hard to put God first in our marriage.  We have only recently developed a personal relationship with God, so we are still learning what it means to have Him in every aspect of our lives.  Please help us in this journey and hold us accountable.

Thank you for having an interest in my blog, and let me know if there are things you want to know more about, or if something is incredibly boring!!!
